CastCut by Dustine Jao

Automatic multicam podcast editing for Mac.

CastCut turns your camera recordings and audio into an editable podcast timeline. It handles syncing, speaker cuts, speech cleanup and short clips, then hands the edit to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

A podcast editor's own tool.

I'm Dustine Jao, a multimedia artist and video editor in Manila, and the maker of CastCut. I record a Taglish interview podcast with two iPhones and an audio recorder, then edit it in Final Cut Pro. Lining up recordings and choosing camera angles took up the same part of every episode. CastCut grew out of that workflow.

Every episode started with the same jobs: line up the iPhone clips with the recorder, pick who should be on screen, and cut out the long pauses. None of that was the creative part. So I wrote a tool to do it, tested it on my own episodes, and released it as CastCut in September 2026.

The goal is to start the creative edit sooner. The exported timeline stays editable, so you can change an angle, adjust a pause or keep a moment that matters to the conversation.

From recordings to an editable episode.

Sync and camera switching

Align cameras and audio by sound, then build cuts around the active speaker. Work with several cameras or create close-ups from a single wide shot.

Cleanup and short clips

Review silence and filler cuts before export. Find moments for social posts, with captions and framing for landscape, vertical and square video.

Processing on your Mac

After the initial model download, editing runs offline. Your footage stays on your Mac, and your original recordings remain available for the final edit.

How to use CastCut.

  1. Add your recordings. Bring in the camera files and the audio from your podcast session.
  2. Review the automatic edit. Check the camera cuts, cleanup choices and suggested short clips.
  3. Export and finish. Continue in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. CastCut can also export finished MP4 videos.

Questions about CastCut.

Who makes CastCut?

CastCut is made by Dustine Jao, a video editor and multimedia artist in Manila, Philippines. I build it, test it on real podcast footage, and answer the support email myself.

What does CastCut do?

CastCut is an automatic multicam podcast editor for Mac. It syncs your cameras and audio by sound, cuts to whoever is talking, clears silences and filler words, and finds short clips. Then it opens the edit as a normal timeline in your editor.

Which video editors does CastCut work with?

Final Cut Pro 10.6 or later, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve 18 or later, free or Studio. CastCut can also export finished MP4 videos without an editor.

Is CastCut an AutoPod alternative for Final Cut Pro?

Yes. AutoPod does not work in Final Cut Pro. CastCut makes the same kind of automatic multicam podcast edit and opens it in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

Does CastCut upload my footage?

No. CastCut runs on your Mac. After a one-time model download, the editing works offline and your footage never leaves the computer.

What Mac do I need for CastCut?

An Apple silicon Mac, M1 or newer, with macOS 14 or later. The first 2 exports are free, so you can try it on a real episode first.
